    ALISON RODGER

    Clinical Director

    BVMS, GPCert(SAM), MRCVS

    Alison was born in Coldstream, and grew up on a farm in the hills above Duns. After qualifying from Glasgow Vet School in 1998, she spent a few years in mixed practice in Aberdeenshire before returning to her home patch. Off-duty, she lives with her partner and dogs beyond Cranshaws – and most mobile phone signals! She enjoys trying to help on the farm, watching sport, and taking the dogs for long walks.

    RYAN O’CONNOR

    Clinical Director

    BVetMed, CertAVP(EM), PGCertVPS, MRCVS, RCVS Advanced Practitioner in Equine Internal Medicine

    Ryan graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2013 and joined the team soon after, progressing to lead the equine team. In 2014 he travelled to Morocco, working with donkeys, mules and horses for SPANA, and became an advanced practitioner in equine internal medicine in 2019. Outside of work, he is an active member of the Border Search and Rescue Unit, and a keen outdoor enthusiast.

    ALICE JENKINS

    Veterinary Surgeon

    Alice joined the team in 2021 having previously worked in East Lothian for five years. She has always worked with small animals and particularly enjoys seeing cats – and elderly cats most of all! Outside of work she enjoys swimming, cycling and running – the latter one with her springer, Senga – and is hoping to complete an Ironman.

    Issy graduated from Edinburgh Vet School in 2020. Originally from a farming background, she works here as a mixed vet. She has a black cocker spaniel called Teal who she loves exploring the countryside with. She also enjoys drawing, baking for everyone at work and riding her two crazy horses, Ruby and Indie.

    Katie is originally from Buckinghamshire. She graduated from Edinburgh Vet School in 2015, and after working for a year in mixed practice south of Lincoln, joined us in 2017. She enjoys a mix of both farm and small animal veterinary challenges. Outside work she is into rallying and has an ex-racing greyhound called George.

    MEGHAN BUTLER

    Meghan joined the team in 2021 as one of our farm vets, though you’ll also find her part-time working with small animals at our Berwick and Duns surgeries. Born in the US, she moved to Scotland in 2008 to study, and decided life in the UK is pretty great! Outside of work, she enjoys live music, cooking, and exploring with her dogs, Hugo the boxer and Cora the German shorthaired pointer.

    Rebecca joined Galedin as a mixed vet in 2020 after graduating from Edinburgh Vet School, prior to which she achieved a degree in bioveterinary science at Harper Adams. She works mainly out of our Cheeklaw surgery and enjoys a mix of both farm and small animal practice. During her spare time she enjoys walking with her two Labradors.

    SAM HUTCHINSON

    Sam graduated from Glasgow Vet School in 2007 and worked in a variety of mixed practices in the UK before spending time working in dairy practice in New Zealand. He returned to the UK in 2017, and following a brief stint locuming around the Highlands, settled in the Borders working for Galedin since late 2017. His current role is a mixture of farm and small animal work.

    Kirsty qualified in 2014 from Edinburgh Vet School and joined the team in 2017. Her main interests include farm animal health planning, surgery and fertility. When not at work, she can usually be found trying to tire out her young working cocker spaniel, Saffy, and exploring the hills of Scotland.

    CLAIRE SHEARLAW-SCOTT

    Claire started at our Berwick surgery in 1998, qualified as an RVN in 2004, and now works part time at our Duns branch. She covers all aspects of small animal nursing from anaesthetics, dentals, inpatient care and sorting the rota for our Berwick nurses. In her spare time she enjoys walking, yoga and looking after her two daughters.

    Ashleigh qualified as an RVN in 2015 and works in the Berwick and Duns branches. She has a keen interest in general nursing, nutrition, dentistry, radiography and nurse clinics. She is keen to further her knowledge and practical skills throughout her career by undertaking further qualifications.

    After leaving school Nicolle completed an animal care course followed by a pre vet nursing course. She has been working in our Duns branch as a nursing assistant since 2013 where she looks after our small animal inpatients. In her spare time she will normally be found walking her black Lab, Ellie.

    Equine Groom

    Cheryl joined us in 2015, having been a client of the practice for many years. She continues to run her own business, teaching and looking after her clients’ horses when on holiday, and so brings valuable experience of horse care and management to the equine team.

    Veterinary Surgeon

    Elise graduated from the Royal Dick in 2019 and joined the team as a new graduate. Originally from Sheffield, she developed a passion for horses after spending her summers on busy racing yards in Yorkshire. She is a fan of most sports and in her spare time enjoys exploring the beautiful Scottish Borders with her cocker spaniel Alfie, as well as cycling, horse riding and stand up paddle boarding.

    Ines qualified from Lisbon University in 2017. She completed a busy internship in Chiltern Equine Clinic in 2018 and went back to her native Portugal for a year before joining us in 2020. Outside work she enjoys travelling, horse riding and exploring the beautiful Scottish Borders.

    MICHAEL MORRISON

    Senior Veterinary Surgeon

    Originally inspired to be a vet by his mother, a vet herself, Michael qualified in 2012 from the Royal Dick. After working for six years at a busy equine clinic in Greater Manchester, he moved up to Galedin to be closer to family. He is interested in all aspects of equine veterinary medicine, but has a special interest in equine dentistry and sinus surgery.

    Yvette’s first involvement with the practice was as a work experience student at the tender age of 14. She joined the team full time after working for a busy breaking yard, and she is particularly capable with nervous, fractious or distressed horses. She also runs her own livery yard near Leitholm, where she competes and has various horses of her own.

    Belinda works at our Duns surgery, where she oversees the administration of the practice, mainly on the farm and equine side. In her spare time she enjoys walking her two border collies, Jem and Kit.

    Receptionist

    Christine has worked in our Duns surgery since 2012. She has a tabby cat at home and spends her evenings with the Duns Players enjoying a double life as a thespian. She was recently in Calendar Girls – if only we had a picture from the production for the website!

    JENNY VALLANCE

    Senior Receptionist

    Jenny has worked with our practice for years, and after several attempts to escape, has realised that she’s destined to remain and has settled into her admin and reception position in Duns. She has three dogs and a horse which she describes as “character building”, and spends half her time telling stories about their current escapades!

    SARAH SHARP

    Receptionist

    Sarah trained as a medical secretary in Durham and worked in London for three years. She worked as a receptionist in all three branches of Renton Swan and Partners, as we were then known, leaving for maternity in 1996, before returning in 2016. She loves greyhounds – especially her own! – and enjoys fundraising for various greyhound charities.

    Sarah joined the team in 2021, after studying law and management at university and working in the data protection and information unit at Lothian and Borders police, although she did spend a year in New Zealand milking and calving dairy cows, which sparked her passion for caring for animals. Outside of work she enjoys walking, dancing and choreography.

    Receptionist

    Originally a ‘townie’ from Cheltenham, Laura now lives in the somewhat contrasting setting of the Lammermuir hills outside of Duns. She is married to a livestock farmer, Joe, and has four dogs and a cat. She enjoys travelling after having four months away for a honeymoon.
