Mixed Farm Vet - Berwick & Duns

We are looking for a mixed or farm vet to join our fun and friendly teams at our Berwick and Duns branches from December this year. We get the best of both worlds being based in the beautiful rural Scottish Borders but within an hours drive of Edinburgh.

The position is a 10 month fixed term contract with the potential to become a permanent position. Our colleague going on maternity leave joined us a fresh faced new graduate 8 years ago and says that she truly loves her job! The vacancy is for a farm vet with the option of small animal work if this suits the applicant.

We are lucky to be based in a great livestock farming area. The majority of our farm work is with progressive, interactive suckler beef and sheep farmers. These range from large commercial herds and flocks to smaller pedigree farmers, and also a few large dairies. We do a range of farm work from routine work, health planning, fertility testing etc to every day clinical cases and emergencies.

Our small animal work includes surgery and consults with access to all the mod cons including endoscopes, dental x-ray, good quality ultrasound and EPOC bloods etc. We aim to provide a great first opinion service with clinical freedom to follow cases up and a large team of small animal vets for support and case discussion.

Most of our vets work a 4.5 day week but there could be potential for flexibility with this and also with the species split preference of the individual.

On call would involve an equal share of farm only on call, usually 1 in 7/8 but moving to 1 in 4 with 2 vets on call through the spring. Another vet is always available to ring however at any time of year. Time off in lieu is offered for weekends on call.

Salary is dependent upon experience but the total package would include a car, a generous CPD allowance and other benefits listed below.

We are a very friendly social team and try to get out as often as possible. In the summer staff from our Berwick branch will often go wild swimming after work and we try to do a bit of fun team building - from rowing on the Tweed to outdoor watersports adventures at Fox Lake.
