of the Scottish Borders and Northumberland
Vets for the pets, horses and livestock
Galedin Veterinary can trace its roots in the Scottish borders back over 200 years.
In 1817, Robert Glaister was paid 50 guineas by the Border Union Agricultural society to move his practice from Wooler in Northumberland, to Kelso.
We’ve been caring for animals since the formation of the veterinary industry in the UK – and that’s why we decided to get creative when naming our practice. The first vet in recorded history practiced in Mesopotamia, 5000 years ago. His name? Urlugaledinna!
Over the generations the practice has changed hands, and the building itself is unrecognisable, but the commitment to care has endured.
Now with seven branches, including a dedicated E-Vets service in our Galashiels branch and an out of hours service in our Berwick-upon-Tweed branch, and host expert facilities for small animal, equine and farm practice.
We’re one of the largest veterinary establishments in the Scottish Borders and Northumberland area, but we treat every one of your animals as though it’s our own.
Whether it’s your household pet, horse or livestock that need our attention, our team of nearly 40 vets have a wealth of knowledge and experience.
In the words of our senior clinical director, Pete Matthews: “Though we’ve been constantly developing through our years of history, our original ethos is still as strong as ever – to provide outstanding care to animals.”
